A Case of the Mondays

Bloom, Day 6

A Case of the Mondays

Today’s notification came in while I was contemplating a meal. I really need to go food shopping, but getting out of my pajamas and going out is more than I am motivated to do right now. What I need most is produce, which is better purchased near where I have to go for physical therapy tomorrow.

My gargoyle sums up my feelings on today. It’s a Monday…compounded by the fact that it’s a Monday after a long weekend. We’ve got that “almost but not quite raining” mist, so it looks like most Mondays feel: sort of grey and depressing.

I’d like to give today a big, fat raspberry.

Today’s reminder came in as we arrived at the Quabbin for a walk. We walked across Windsor Dam and down to the spillway. Definitely a gorgeous day…and great timing on my random reminder.

Holyoke Mall at Ingleside on Black Friday

We had to make an emergency jellybean run. It could have been a lot worse. This was my first time at a mall on Black Friday while not working EVER.

Achievement unlocked: survive mall on Black Friday. Jellybean disaster averted. *No people or puppies were harmed during completion of this achievement.

Today’s reminder came in as I was stitching together this panorama in AutoStitch. 20 photos were used to make it. It was a beautiful day to be outside…whether you were running with 15K of your closest friends or playing spectator. Between the world-class runners and the costumes, it was a great time.

I downloaded an app called “Bloom” for my iPhone. One of the options for reminders is a “bloom” to take a photo every day, delivered at a random time. I’ve decided to do this as a challenge.

This is yesterday’s photo. I was in the backseat of a car on my way to Thanksgiving dinner #1 when the reminder came in.

Mike Doughty, his Band Fantastic, and an iPhone

Mike Doughty, his Band Fantastic, and an iPhone

Ok…it has definitely been too long since I have posted here.

Saturday, November 19 2011, I went to see Mike Doughty and Moon Hooch play at the Bowery Ballroom. The show was, unsurprisingly, incredible.

As much as I would have loved to have brought a full complement of camera gear, I am currently limited to what I can easily use with one hand. All I brought with me was my iPhone 4S and the apps I use for editing on the phone.

I have to say that the quality of pictures this phone can take is amazing. Yes, the Canon 5D Mark II is better, but the fact that the quality of the iPhone is good enough to even be considered in the same sentence is mind-blowing if you stop to remember that we’re talking about what a phone can do.

Is a phone more limited than an SLR? YES.

Does that mean you can’t get good pictures with one? NO.

Learn what your gear can do. Learn what your gear can’t do. Push the boundaries. Have fun. Unlike film photography, deleting unusable pictures doesn’t cost you anything…and it’s easy to learn from your mistakes.
